Reef Octopus makes the varios 2. It's DC, variable, extremely quiet, extremely reliable and parts are available, unlike some imports. Highly recommend. Merry Christmas!

How many GPH would be recommended for a 33 gallon tank, I honestly don't know what GPH is recommended per gallon tank?

Thats a great question. For a reef tank 10x is on the low end. Many would say anywhere between 25x - 50x the gallons of the DT. The RO varios 2 is rated for up to about 950 gph.

Wouldn't this 25x-50x formula mean that an Eheim 1262 would be undersized for a 33 gallon tank? That doesn't seem right . . . I'm thinking that 25x - 50x is inclusive of flow from powerheads. You don't need to get all of that implied flow just from a return pump, I would think.

Exactly. It’s the total with pump and powerheads.

Hang over back, did not drill the tank, but am considering drilling it in the future.

I drilled my biocube and am so glad I didn't go the hang on back route. I am using the quietone pro 3000 (not real quiet).

I've got a sicce 3.5 coming to use on my setup.

I have a 32g biocube with 20g high sump. I have the siphon and pump backed off, but if I put in a deflector I could probably use my return pump alone for in tank flow with softies and polyps.

I'm running the return at about 400gph + jebaeo pp4 pump and three koralia nanos

Look at jebao on amazon. Have the 4000 on my 75 and love it. They are controllable dc pumps so it's easy to adjust. Mine runs pretty quiet. As for flow, I feel like flow should be slow through sump to have more contact time with skimmer and refugium. Now in display, I use jebao pp8 power heads and run that higher, like 30x's volume. The power heads are also dc and feature different patterns. I have a rossmont M 900 running in lower rear of display too so I don't get any detritus buildup back there.

With head pressure I think it's around 8x's display but I'm still playing with it.
