I'm new to this forum and I'm totally new to this sump thing, I currently have a reef octopus 110 and was wondering size return sump pump I would need for it. It's a 20L on a 90g tank. I don't have room for anything bigger cause it was a custom tank and wife isn't changing it. I also need quite because it's in the family room. Thanks guys for help.

You don't want your return pump to exceed the capacity of your overflow. With that said, I'd be looking at one of the DC pumps that are adjustable. My first look would be at Jebao's.....there newer DCT series.....something between DCT6000 and DCT12000. And FYI, DC pumps are virtually silent.

You would not be looking for a return pump for the skimmer , Reef Octopus, as it comes with a pump. What your looking for is the return pump fromthe sump to the main tank. What we need to know is, how many lines are running to the sump and what size are they. Generally in a drilled tank you would have one 1" drain line and one 3/4" return line. If this is the case with you, then your going to be looking for a return pump of up to 960gph, after a 4' head loss, or the distance from the sump to the main tank. There are also a ton of them out there, and everyone has their favorites.

[h=1]Tunze Silence 1073.040 - Extremely reliable and quiet. I've been running one for 6 years.[/h]

I recommend the ehiem compact returns, you can adjust the flow with the twist of a knob and they are pretty quite
