I currently have 2 Gen-X PCX-40 pumps running as my returns on the 120G. Today I checked them and 1 wasn't putting any flow out, but was running. I unplugged it, and cleaned the impeller and intake tube. When I plugged it up, nothing. I didn't even get a hum from the pump. I am looking at just changing out the pumps for more power efficient models, but not sure what to use. The tank has 2 overflows with 1" drains. I thought about trying to rebuild the pump, as I know a few people that can re-wind the motor from my work. What are your thoughts on this? Any help is appreciated.

You can't replumb for just one? I run one gen x pxc40 on a 150g system and it runs my reactor manifold too. I also have two 1" drains. Plenty of turn over for my SPS dominant DT

You only want about 3-5x gph flow through your sump. To much more and you loose skimmer effeciency and can get lots of micro bubbles.

I recently had to rebuild a mag-drive pump that wouldn't run. The volute (pump housing) was worn where the shaft sits, allowing the rotor to touch the side of the motor housing, essentially locking the rotor up magnetically. I replaced the housing and the impeller assembly. Now it works like a charm.

Sorry, I just saw that it's an external pump. My Little Giant pump wouldn't start at one point and I removed the pump from the motor and used a drill to spin it while I oiled it really well. I finally got it to run though. My problem was that the pump was used when I acquired it and had been sitting for quite some time.

Well, my sump/refugium is a 100G rubbermaid tub. If you all think that 1 of the pumps will do it, then I'll just tee off the return line to go to both returns in the tank. I have 2 1500gph powerheads on a Seio timer in the tank also.
