I am currently in process of setting up a 120 gallon reef. I have read many mixed reviews about the different dc pumps and wonder what were everyones thought here?

I've used wavelines for the last couple of years. BRS quit selling them so on my recent tank I went with a Red Sea Vario...the thing is dead silent.

If I went with a new internal. Then I'd have to pull the trigger on one of these models. :)

@MrMichael
Runs one and the reviews speak for themselves.
Regards, GoVols

I own one of the smaller Varios and I'm very happy with it. There are a few build threads with Varios and they use a variant of that DC pump on their skimmers. I recommend it.

Ecotech has sold enough Vectra that there are plenty of reviews available. The third option would be the upcoming Siccie DC pumps. Everyone loves their non-DC pumps, so there is excitement over the upcoming DC pumps. Minimal reviews available.

If anyone speaks German, maybe they could summarize MeerwasserLive's recent YouTube review of the Siccie?? You can see demos of the Siccie iOS app in their review.

Good Stuff!!!!
Thank You. :)

I recently bought A current pump and power heads. It took some time and extra components but I got everything working together on my 120. I have 3000 GPH pump I run at about 70% and 2-1050 GPH power heads I run synced off and on. I push one button and powerheads shut off and the return pump drops to 20% for feeding. 10 minutes latter everything goes back to normal. I got a deal from Saltwateraquarium.com If you deduct the store credit they gave me it all was under $300. If you decide to go this route message me. I have learned more than I wanted to know about their product line. I can give you info that is not on their site.

I love my Varios 6 internal pump for my return and a Jebao DCT4000 internal for my manifold pump, both are DC pumps. Reliable and quiet.

There are so many mixed reviews on all the dc pumps, this has me scratching my head. Plenty of people love them, but there are quite a number of problems i am seeing with not performing to specs and failure of controller and or pumps. In most cases multiple of same problem occurring with same model pump within reviews from customers.

I am also at the beginning stages of a 120. I plan and using a Fluval SP4 (AC) with a gate valve to tune the flow. This pump is supposed to be very quiet and very reliable.

When people start claiming they've had DC pumps work flawlessly for 5 years, I'll start believing in DC pumps as return pumps

I have an Iwaki 40 that ran for 10 years without fail. I moved and recently took this pump out blew out the dirt and dust checked impeller and removed pump head plugged it in and motor ran like new. Hard to beat that for reliability.
