Is this a 150g AIO? If so, how big is the space for the return pump and what is your target flow?

Nope not aio, I'll be using an external overflow, not really sure on target flow..
That makes more sense. Not sure if you intended to, but you posted this in the AIO section. Not a big deal.

Personally, I'm a big fan of using AC return pumps. They are more reliable and for me, reliability is king when it comes to return pumps. I also want constant flow so DC return pumps lose some appeal, also. If I used a controller to constantly change flow it would mess up my drain settings and make the tank noisy.
This is what I use on my 187g. It is a bit bigger than I need but one nice thing about the Sicce pumps is that you can dial down the flow making them manually adjustable.

If you are looking to save a little money, take a look at this one. Notice how similar it looks to the Sicce? The only difference is the color, warranty, and rotor. The motor blocks themselves are made by the same people.

If you are looking for DC suggestions, I'm probably not the right person. The one big advantage they have is they tend to be quieter.

How much flow is the external overflow? Will you have a refugium?

I would think you could probably get the

Mine has been very reliable and you could buy 3 for the price of a Varios 6. That being said the Varios 6 is more reliable, but I would rather have 2 in case of failure either way.

Otherwise the SICCE Syncra series is great. If you get the 5, and you get an overflow that does 1500 GPH it will work well, but I would still Union valve the return.

This is the overflow I was thinking about getting , I'm kinda on the fence about refugium or just have a sump with live rock..

I use a Sicce Multi-Quiet 4000 and its been going strong for 2 years without any issues. I have it dialed down with a ball valve because it's a little to strong for my 75 gallon tank but it should be great for your 150. I chose it over the syncra series because it uses half the wattage at the same GPH rating and it is a quiet pump, my protein skimmer pump is louder. You can use it submersed or externally if that is something that is necessary.

No CPRs, They need the pump. Go with Eshopps or there is a better one I cant think of that work after power outages or using the feed option of a pump without the lifter.

The air lifter on the cpr isn't good?

For overflow, for the amount of money you are trying to spend, I'd go with Eshopps eclipse model. HOB overflow are not always reliable. There are people that have been using it for years without any issues, however there are way too many issues and horror stories with HOB overflow. I've used one for little over 6 months, and I was always nervous about it failing. for the same price as CPR you could actually get the Reef Savvy 16" ghost overflow, which is a lot better then the CPR.

And as everyone else already mentioned, I'd go with Sicce Syncra 4 or 5. Sicce pumps are very reliable and does a really good job. Just my two cents.
