i got this hydor seltz d to replace a really noisy lifegard quiet one it comes with this stepped barb below could i cut off the top end and leave the 1" outlet at the bottom? if i dont wont the top piece kind of restrict the flow?

If you can fasten the hose you are using to the biggest part of the outlet nozzle, then I see no reason to keep the narrow part.
