So I just got a waterbox 45.2 marine. First time having a sump on a tank. It came with a coral box dc return pump but I'm thinking it's not powerful enough. I have to close the main drain line almost all the way to prevent any syphone noise/gurgling. Is this because the pump is not powerful enough? It says rated for 1600gph. It's a 45 gallon tank including the sump

do You have other powerheads for flow in the tank or just the return pump. Also what are you planning to have in the tank (coral and or fish).

I just set it up today I will have other power heads probably a nero 3. I'll lightly stock it. Probably a couple clowns maybe 2 more smaller fish

What's ur head pressure/pipe size? Depending on your specific plumbing the actual gph is usually a lot lower than the rated amount. For example, my bump is 500gph but actually pumps out 150gph inside the DT due to head pressure.

There are a few ways to reduce gurgle (just google it) but i wouldn't close out the main drain unless you have a back up train bc as time goes by if something gets clogged you can easily overflow.

Thanh from tidalgarden has a good on youtube for reducing noise.
