Return Pump Rattle - At Wits End!

I give up. Maybe I just get a Reef Octopus DC pump. Spend the extra $$ and then hopefully not worry about sound. This tank is right next to my desk in my home office and driving me bonkers.

I mean Jebao ripped off their technology for the DCP series pump. That's the one I have, given it's a cheapo and I have 2 for redundancy...the ONLY thing I can think of is that maybe the side of the sump is vibrating the stand....but then you'd said that wasn't the case. Maybe LFS just got a bad batch of pumps? But then dang it's not only one brand is it?

I run a Reef Octopus Varios on level 3 speed of 5. Its piped with flex PVC to a Tee, then rigid to the tank. Its extremely quiet.

You mentions rubber bumpers on the sump. Are you sure they are all in place? ARe you sure they are in the right places even if they are there. I have never needed isolation between a sump and stand. Just feet on the pump.
I think you are having the problem the bumpers are supposed to prevent.
I find it extremely unlikely that 3 pumps by 2 brands are making the same noise by being bad.

I agree its highly unlikely with switching pumps and same problem. I would try the previous suggestion about adding a valve on the output of the pump and throttle it back a little. The back pressure might be enough to stop the cavitation. Hope you can figure it out. That would drive me crazy as well.

Weird, I have the Same eheim pump in My RSR 170 and it is dead silent

My Sicce is whisper quiet. I had a noisy pump years back and placed it on top of filter media foam and it silenced the vibration and the filter media acted as a biological pad

I have both the small and medium innovative marine microjet dc pumps. Small, powerful, reliable and silent!

Multiple jeabo dcp pumps and all are silent. I have 2 of the 20000lph ones and 1 5000 1 3500. Worth their price for sure!
