Officially placed the order for the FRAG 145,5 (~145g tank + sump)!

So let's talk about equipment, specifically the return pump. My plan is to oversize my pump to increase the longevity of the return pump.

For example, only running it at 30% for an extended period of time rather than pushing it to the limits of 70-100% power for that same period of time.

My original idea was to purchase either an Ecotech Vectra L2 (3,000 gph) or the Varios 8 (2,700 gph), but now I'm hearing that a lot of people are having success with a COR 20 (2,000 GPH), Vectra M2 (2,000 gph), and/or Varios 6 (1,720 gph) for the same size tank.

What are your thoughts? Go super oversized? Additionally, I have an APEX so that may factor into my decision, but I also have an Ecotech Backup battery.

Here is the question I would ask myself when buying any equipment... If I upgrade my tank, will I be able to use the same equipment that's currently on my current tank?

Oversizing certain equipment for a current tank is not an issue unless they might be wave pumps. The reason why i say wave pumps is that if you have a 40g tank and want to put in 2 MP 40 for example, you might only be able to run them at 10%, and if they are ran at 10% you loose all the functionality the pumps have with ramping up and down and so on.

I have always oversized my equipment, because I knew I was going to upgrade at some point, and better to buy it once, then to buy it twice.

Just my 2 cents on this matter.

Happy reefing!
