With everything happening with power outages right now, it has me thinking about my setup and issues that I would have. I currently have JEBOA DC9000 (I think that is the model). I like it. However, I run it at 40%. when the power goes out for an extended period of time, when it powers on, it powers on at 100%. If I was away when this happened, I would assume that my ATO would try to overfill and I would end up with salinity issues.

My question is what is a good reliable pump I should look at? I have an apex lite, so if I could link it to that it would be a plus, but not a deal-breaker.

Tank: 90 Gallon (105 water volume) Mixed reef. Return pump will only run return and a reactor with carbon.

Thanks,

I have some Jebao powerheads . The controller keeps them at the the preset speed even after a power outage.
I guess it not the same with their pumps?

Maybe someone here will know?

Anyone?

It only happens when lost power for a long time? It could be it's using a button battery to keep the data, and it went bad. If so, a replacement will solve it.

As for pump, Apex COR or octopus varios or maxspect Jump will be good choice.

Don’t use a Speed Controlled pump for your return. It’s totally unneeded, and they aren’t as dependable. Plus they are more expensive. I really like my Danner Pumps, and from now on I’m not using anything but them for returns, skimmer and utility. The only drawback, is the really long power cords, as they are designed for ponds.

This is on a CoralBox 16 Powerhead.
Most likely on return pumps as well.
But they do have a battery in the controller. You can see it on top left corner.

@Lasse I thought I would share this with you. If battery goes bad then the pump will default to 100%. Just make sure your drain can’t handle the full power in the event of a power outage.
Some higher end pumps will use eeprom. This typically lasts indefinitely.

I have the Coral Box DCA serie with the new controller - never have been out for this. I also use 1-10 V (external management).

@Koddie Doo - How old is your controller/pump? Do it happens even with very short power shout downs?

I would assume that my ATO would try to overfill and I would end up with salinity issues.

I have an apex lite
Do you manage your ATO with the controller? If so - can´t you set a max on time on the ATO pump? I use that trick - but I have a GHL P4

I tested with two controllers of that type that you show in your post. Both is a couple of years old and have not been used for at least one year. Both of them had keep their settings - however one of the was on 100 %. I have set both of them on 40 % now and after a short while take the out from the grid. Will test to power up them tomorrow again and see if I get this issue.

@ksed - thank you - my drain can handle it (two pipes) but my sump will run low. But I have a max on time on my ATO - it will stop the ATO if the sum not is filled up after 10 minutes.

Sincerely Lasse

I have the same model Jebao on my tank longest ive been without power is 3 days and it kept my setting, odd that your doesnt. Even if its past warranty try contacting them i find they normally respond on amazon and are pretty quick to send out replacement parts and or a new pump. Alot cheaper than buying new equipment.
