hi all.

Ref: in sump pump

I am about to setup a 30g tank setup and looking for recommendation on the return pump.
I am going to have the tank drilled this weekend.

My friend wants to sell me his used mag5 pump but not sure that is the right pump or do you have any recommendation on the return pump

thanks

Are you wanting to go in sump or out of sump with the pump?

in the sump
which is the least power consumption pump? how good are the eheim vs mag?
thanks

I have a smaller Eheim pump for a different application and it works great. They are supposed to be really good pumps. I also know that people use Mag pumps with good results, but I have never owned one personally.

Depending on your plumbing you might want to try an Eheim 1048 (10 watts) or 1250 (28 watts) for a tank that size. I'd check specs on the head loss and think about how many elbows, etc. before deciding on which one. The 1250 may or may not require throttling back a little. The return pump is definitely one place you don't want to skimp on quality.

I have been happy with my dual Marinelands. You'd need a smaller one though.

I have not heard anything bad about eheim or mag pumps. Any of them should be fine I'd bet.
