this is my 220g on the way up.
now on to the questions. so i bought the tank as you see it, its been drilled twice in back and then there are two corner over flows on each side. i believe the back is for closed loop and the corner over flows are drain/return. so my first ive been thinking about this closed loop and im not sure if its worth it. will it create enough water movement to be worth it or should i just close the wholes up and just put to mp40's in it. (btw this will be a mixed reef). if i keep the closed loop what pump suggestions do you have? if i close it up how should i close it up. the next question is what should i use for a return pump. ive been looking and talked to some people and from what they told me they suggested 10x which would be around 2000gph. this tank is going in my living room though and the pump will be under the stand with a 4ft head height and from all the reviews ive read on 2000gph pumps its going to be loud, which i obviously dont want. the other 220 threads i have looked at dont seem to have nearly that much flow through there tank. so i guess the question what return pump suggestions do you have for me? let me know if you have any other suggestions for me!!

thanks

I'd suggest Reeflo pumps. Relatively quiet, powerful, inexpensive. I use a Dart on my return and a Snapper for closed loop. Almost 10 years and no problems, no maintenance.

I originally had a closed loop in my 100G that I had Lee Mar custom build for me. Over the years I have gotten on a power conservation kick so the 65 watt closed loop was eliminated in favor of two Evolutions 1400's at 5 watts each on a Reefkeeper Lite controller. My closed loop returns are in the top back corners and not a flood risk so I kept the Oceans Motions Squirt two way from the closed loop and stuck it on my return so now I get switching flows from the return which has to run anyway.

My power savings are paying off by the way, I saved $1400 in calendar year 2011 compared to 2009 and 2010 and most was the addition of LED lighting, eliminating aquarium pumps and combining duties into one or two pumps and changing my swimming pool pump to a two speed pump.

I think I'm gonna close up the the closed loop and just go with mp40's. This will hopefully save me some money as I was going to have no40's either way. now just trying to figure out the best way to close the holes. Been looking at pumps still haven't decided yet though

If they are threaded bulkheads just screw a PVC plug in them so they could be used in the future if you change your mind.
