73g DT 91g total volume. I currently have a Sicce in it and it is just insanely loud (despite the name). I’ve taken it apart and reassembled and noticed no difference.

I’m in the market for something new because of this. Quiet is key. DC is preferred as is the ability to control it remotely.

Bump, I also am looking for a fairly quiet DC pump.

Reef octopus Varios brand. Or the neptune Cor-20 if you have an apex. I hear great things about both, i have a varios2 sitting in a box waiting for me to install it on my reefer 250 here soon because my current pump is too loud also. I've talked to countless people and they say the varios pumps are silent.

I keep hearing good things about the Reef Octopus pumps. I have their skimmer so I should have known better that they would be top of the line.

FWIW you don't need an Apex to run the COR20 only the COR15. Other than that, Reef Octopus Varios are known to be quiet (some have had issues with frequent impeller replacement) as well as Ecotechs Vectra line. Honestly of them all the standard recommendations for most return pumps are Sicce's as they are typically dead silent. So a little surprising to hear you're having noise issues with one...

Also if your budget is limitless you can look into Royal Exclusiv Red Dragon pumps or Abyzz. Both will cost you around $750-1200

I run a COR-20 on my main tank (90G and 50G plumb together) and it's super quiet. Does not need an apex to be controlled. I have heard great things on the Varios Pump, which can also be controlled by APEX as well. Lets not leave out Vectra pumps too.

I have the Various 2 and it is whisper quiet. From everything I read, you can expect that in the 4, 6, and 8.

BTW.

I replaced the Sicce pump I had on my daughters tank for 2 reasons. Reliability, and controllability.

yeah, I’m not sure what the issue is. It could be the hard vinyl tubing ratting.. but it’s hard to be certain.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm excited to get mine in and test it out! Waiting on BRS to get there heaters back in stock before placing another order with them, because i need some plumbing adapters as well to get the varios2 hooked up.

I had the same issue with a Sicce pump on my Red Sea reefer 525. I had the vinyl hose a little too long and it was pushing the pump into the wall of the sump. I trimmed the hose and made sure the suction cups were not being pushed down or pulled up by the hose. Once I got the install correct, it's been dead silent for me. I knew it was the install. The pump running without being hooked up to any plumbing was dead silent.

I would look into Royal Exclusiv or Abyzz for a DC pump. They have the best warranties and are built very well.

I run a Jebao DCT-4000 in my RSR250 which is dead silent. Can’t complain about it at all. I have just bought a new RSR 525XL and as I’m now fully Apex kitted I have bought a COR-20 for that (and a second COR-20 as a spare for either tank). The only benefit of the COR-20 is that I can gradually ramp up after feeding and maintenance to reduce air bubbles in the tank - the Jebao can only be powered by the Apex, not fully controlled so it’s on/off.

Vectra S2

Ill put a vote in for the Cor20, especially if you have or intend to ever buy an Apex. Mine is dead silent on my 75g. I'm sure you can't go wrong with Vectra or Varios either for a tank of that size.

Is the 20 overkill? My tank needs a turnover of 790 gph

If you're only running 1" pipe (or smaller) that's probably about all you'll get assuming you have a standard ~5' vertical from sump to top of tank. I'd rather have too big of a pump than too small.

Would it be more appropriate to get the 15? Still double the needed output and $50 less.

Lol this is mine, $15 nothing fancy but quiet and gets the job done. If I need a new one every year it will take 10 years to break even with the higher end pumps

You won't be able to achieve 1500gph with a cor15. That's what a pump is rated at with 0 head pressure. Look at the chart they provide for it for head pressure. And you will have more head pressure than just your vertical climb. Every elbow and fitting adds head pressure as well.

I got the Vectra S2 tons of extra power to play with and dead silent. It’s easily programmed and with Ecotech releasing its new Mobius we should be about to control it remotely. Even without the app it’s a great pump with a small footprint. The battery backup is a great option for it as well.
