How short should the tubing to the return pump be? Finally starting to setup the 92gal that I have after getting a different sump. Pics if the pump virus sides (diets it look like it’s missing anything- it has ridges like something could be screwed into the intake part) and tubing.

The output to return looks fine. The mag drive (looks like a 9.5) is threaded. I would keep the vinyl as short as possible. I would also use a plastic hose clamp. Yes you are missing the plastic intake strainer w/ foam. Since this is NPT you can make an intake strainer w/ notched PVC.
Hope this helps.

I have a zip tie that I was going to use on the part where the tube connects to the pump. Does this look like a good spot for the pump to sit? I thought about turning it around but then the inlet might be to close to the wall and impead flow.

Yes, make sure you dont cut it too short. Also would use one of those ratcheting hose clamps they are way more secure. See pic

I like a straight direct shot for return tubbing, otherwise, the hose can move the pump to an annoying place, and there is no need for extra hosing to take up space in the sump.

I like the idea of using flexible tubing. The gradual turns (as opposed to 45 and 90 degree PVC) allow for much quieter operation.

Is that a Danner Mag Drive pond pump?

I’m not sure what pump. Got the whole setup used… with a ton of different random pieces that he wasn’t using but threw in anyway. :) I’m sure I’ll have lots more questions.

It should have the sticker on it saying Danner mag drive and # .
Also I would check to make sure it still runs. Those pumps can cease up if impeller is not kept in good shape.

I’ve used them for many years. They’re a workhorse. Only concern is with an older Impeller and restarting after a power outage (mentioned somewhat above).

Yes, I've had those experiences. Regular maintenance of the pump impeller will help with that.

What size hose clamp do I need?

The tubing is 3/4 ID x 1 OD. I found one at a garden/aquaponics store. They told me it is a 1inch one. But see pic that’s all the way closed and there’s still too much room…
(I also tried it with the tubing on the barb and there’s still room)
