What is the best pump internal or external for return that will not produce heat. Trying to get rid of chiller.

I really like Eheim pumps. They are silent and produce practically no heat. They are also extremely reliable.

I have an Eheim, much more silent than a mag 7 but still not silent. Silicone pad under your pumps will work wonders though. Had a little giant, once you get it started (and on a silicone pad) it's also quiet.

Gen-X are silent and don't create any noticeable heat.

an external pump will inherently add less heat to the aquarium than a submersible. Personally, I prefer the external pumps, but they are noisier than the submersibles. what size are you looking at? that can mean the world of difference for recommendations.

I used to run both panworld and iwaki (japanese model), both was excellent pumps, hardly any heat and super quiet. The american version of iwaki is noiser. Those are external pumps. Eheim are great too. What ever you do, imo, dont buy quiet one pumps....they should change their names, their anything from being quiet. They also run really hot. External pumps are the way to go for less heat, again, imo.

+1 on that. I have a dart pump and about a year ago I was asking the same question. It helped with my heat. Noise is ok.

+1 on external pumps producing less heat than internal pumps. Think about it...the body of the pump sits outside your water so any heat that's generated comes off it into the room.

I have used internal (currently) and external. I have a GenX Mac4 and it was pretty ding dang awesome if you ask me. I got many years of trouble free use out of it and I never cleaned it (which is a no-no, I know).

Im trying out the Reeflo BH 1460 with no issues on temp changes so far... its still too early to tell , but seems to work well. Its a mag driven pump with adjustable flow and wattage.

Its for our 180 was thinking 1500 to 2000 gph we are using a mag drive pump now its a 3600 gph
