Return Pump

They are all the same pump with the exception of the pond version having a longer cord.

The question I have is why a MAG 24....they are such energy hogs. I know they are highly reliable, but the energy they consume is very high. Why not consider a DC pump.

I'm actually looking into a DC-12000 as we speak. Basically I'm looking for more flow at a reasonable cost. The DC-12k is 120 on amazon. The mag 18 I currently have isn't cutting it.. probably because of the check valve and 90's that were used. Any thoughts if the DC 12k will be enough?

I have 1" pipe then a check valve then a 90 back to the tank, then 90 up to a tee then horizontal about 2 feet each side then a 90 on each side and over into the tank.. after its in the tank I have a tee on each side with 3/4" loc-line and then the 3/4" lines continue down into the tank to put water behind the rocks

I know I probably have too many 90's but I didn't have the room to do 45's

In my experience I never had an issue with 90 degree fittings. The Mag 18 does 1800 GPH with at DC 12000 you'll double your flow and less power consumption. I just bought a WaveLine DC 12000 to replace my external pump. Cost a little bit more than the Jeboa but seems to be made a little stronger if you look at the impeller part of the pump. I've also read the Jeboa's tend to crack around the impeller over time. The main thing to keep in mind is that your overflows have to keep up with the flow. So if you have 1" return lines your overflows should be larger to keep up with the extra flow. I have one pump running my tank, chiller and refugium. I have another one that came out of my pond that I keep solely as a back up just in case. So I would suggest looking up the DC pumps and keeping your Mag 18 as a back up.

Thanks for the input.. as far as my drains go, im running the herbie method with dual 1" siphons.. the valves are turned atleast half closed right now to keep the water line about the main lines. the DC will be supplying my fuge as well

Before you buy one of the Jebao dc1200 pumps research the new DCT models now branded under Jecod. They claim to have solved many of the Gen1 problems concerning reliability by moving the controller from the motor to the remote. Reasonably priced too compared to a Red Dragon or Reef Octopus model. Not a lot of longterm feedback out there though. I'm getting ready to switch over and keep my faithful Mag Supreme Drive7 as a back up.

Think they are worth the extra 50-60 bucks?

If they last more than six months, yes. Think of the utility savings if the reliability is there. Plus that's cheaper than what I paid for a Mag7

The jebao 12000 is highly over rated. Look into a fluval sp4 if your looking for 2000g range. I regret buying the 12000 for my return pump.

Thanks for the tip. I shut my mag 18 down last night to work on a couple things and when I started it back up it seemed to have more flow.. Not a lot but it may just been enough. I need to get my skimmer running and see how that goes. Waiting on a part from the manufacturer

I've got no complaints about my jebao 1200. It's a little over a year old. Seems to be holding up well. I usually run it about 1/2 speed unless I'm kicking up the mps to blow out rocks. Then I turn it up to clean out the suspended stuff.
