Hi all
Will be after a new return pump for my 350 reefer so what are the best pumps out there.
Cheers
Shane

You're going to get a lot of various answers.

I used the VarioS-6 on my reefer 250 when I set it up, really like the pump with no complaints. I moved over to the Neptune COR20 as a beta tester and been running it on my tank since then!

What is your definition of "best?" Nobody should be able to answer until they know this. Are you talking about rock-solid long-term reliability, lots of features, low wattage or what? Answers will vary based on what you are looking for.

Yes, people use EcoTech pumps. Most people like the features, but not so much the other areas - they have had some failures and long-term is unknown until the pumps have gone 5-6 more years without needing any upgrades or design changes.

EDIT - the "best" for me is rock-solid reliability, so I use Laguna or Fluval that can go decades with no issues. Powerhouses that are not high in wattage. These are not for everybody - they have no features.

was Looking at the adjustable flow ones but must be reliable and going to last.
Like I always say you pay for what you get so don’t mind soending 2 to 300 on a pump.

With a 90ish gallon display, then look in the 600-900 GPH range after head loss. ...or so.

Here is the basic conundrum. The most reliable ones are not controllable, but they do last - some of them for decades and decades of reliable performance. Most of these are AC - I like Fluva and Laguna which are made with Askol blocks which are super reliable. These will fit your budget no problem. Laguna Max Flow 1350 is about perfect. Fluval SP4 is maybe a bit much, but you can dial them down. There are other awesome ones like Ehiem and Tunze, but I am less familiar.

DC pumps (they are technically AC still, but people call them DC) have a bunch of options and you can dial them back to your ideal flow rate, but not a single one except for maybe Royal Exclusiv (out of your budget) have been around long enough to call them reliable. Many of the early models suffered premature failure with either the controller or unit and there are upgrades. It will be a while before you can determine if they are truly reliable, nor not.

Cheers for the info lads will have a good look.
Cheers
