I am in the planning stages of a new tank, 45gal tank (24x24x18). I was thinking of using 2 15 gal talls (20x10x17) 1 for a sump and 1 for a refuge. So I am thinking about 50 total gallons. I was thinking of using a a PanWorld 30PX-MD15. Would this work well? Would you suggest a different external pump?

Thanks
Christopher

What is the GPH rating of this pump? and 45 + 30 = 75 total water volume. ;) Why do you not want to use an in sump pump? Just asking?

I've always been a fan of a submersible pump, but thats just my preference. I think they are easier to plump and use, especially in a smaller setup.

the 50 as water volume, i dont think the sump and refuge will be full. And i meant 60 not 50 just an estimate. I was thinking about space inside the sump, I was also looking a Water Blaster or an Eheim if i decide to go in sump.

Water Blasters are great, and are very low energy users. When my Mag9 decides to go south, it'll be replaced with a Water Blaster for sure.

if I go with the Water Blaster should I go with the 1000 or 2000. I am thinking it will need to pump up about 4 or 5'

Depends your flow you want, but I would go with the 2000, and then break off the output, so you can control how much goes into the tank with ball valves. Anything you don't need, send it back to the sump.

sounds like a good idea thanks

No problem, glad to help out. Another thing to consider is using it as a feed pump for any reactors you have. Do a manifold on the setup, and you don't have any extra pumps and cords in your tank, plus, a $0.39 PVC 'T' is cheaper than a $9.99 pump to run a reactor :) I just moved my setup to this and its great.
