Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to this community and have been following along quite a bit. There's a lot of good information on this site. Thank you all! My question is I'm setting up a 150 gallon reef tank and 40 gallon sump. I would like to know your feelings about running a tunze return and what size tunze would I need to turn the tank over 5 to 10 times an hour? I'm also open to other pump suggestions as well and what model I would need. I'm going into this with an open mind! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again

Tunze is great stuff but 4 years ago I bought 2 Orlushy pumps , 1050 gph and 3000 gph. Both have performed perfectly for 4 years with no maintenance. Both are silent. I just got another 3000 that's been going for 6 months. So far so good. The last 3000 was 90 bucks. Just something to think about. I own tunze stuff but i think I'll buy these pumps for a while.

I don't have any experience with Tunze return pumps, but will vouch for their various Stream pumps forever. I'm sure their performance and quality is great.

I run three Sicce ADV 10.0's on my 270 for return, skimmer, and spare/salt mixing pump. I wanted identical pumps for easy swaps in case of failure and love them. You might consider the ADV 5.5 or 7.0. The flow charts aren't super helpful, but assuming your sump will be in the stand, a 5.5 seems like it would be fine if you keep the plumbing pretty straight and simple and a 7.0 would probably put you closer to the top of your 10x and deal with some plumbing complications.

Agreed, I use a 5.5 on my 150 gallon with an extra tall stand and it's perfect

i would think about if your just going to use it as a return or run a manifold and run it as a return plus run reactors etc.
you can always turn down a dc pump, and have more capacity for later.

tunze has always been quality in their wavemakers and sicce makes good pumps

ive got alot of older panwork and iwaki pumps, but on my newest tank i went with the big jebao 20000 and i love it . very strong and quiet
