I have a 90 gallon was looking at the syncra 5.5 which does 1450 gpa or the 7.0 which does 1900 gpa my question is can I have to strong of a retirn and in my 90 is either of these too strong? I’d rather go with the 1900 but afraid that’s too much. Thanks

Personal this is why I get controllable DC pumps but neither will be too strong for your tank. If you end up with more flow than you want just add a wye and face nozzles different directions.
I’m not sure if this matters but it could be important. My tank is an older tank it’s at least 15 years old and I only have one overflow in the corner, so should I still be able to get away with going up as high as the 1900?

Either pump is acceptable. You will never actually get 1900 GPH from even the largest pump when you consider the elevation and the friction losses and if you did your corner overflow could never handle that much flow. I would not expect to get more than 600 gph out of 1" return piping and about 300 out of 3/4" no matter what pump you use. I would recommend the smaller pump. The only advantage to the larger is that it will be running at a lower speed and might be a little quieter.

After looking at the pump curves more closely, I realized you are probably talking about the ADV line of pumps. I would go with the 7.0 for your application. The 5.5 is likely to only deliver 400 gph or so with the 2.0-2.5 meters of backpressure I would expect from a normal system.

So I got the syncra 5.0 which is 1350 gph, I’m hearing a lot of gurgling and rushing water which I didn’t hear with my old return pump, I assume it’s kind of a good thing meaning a lot of water is turning over better than before?

Get a pump in the Sicce SDC line. Quiet, efficient and reliable (plus a 5-year warranty).
That’s what I got, the pump is very quiet. The sounds aren’t form the pump it’s form the water going from my overflow into sump. I assume the new pump is turning water over more efficiently t than my last pump and that’s what the water sounds are.

It can also be the tubing. I made the mistake of using braided nylon so this amplifies a lot of the vibrations and channels it into the stand.

Tubing is the same I had on there with the old return pump. I just feel the new return pump is doing its job better than the old one and the gurgling and what not is the water turning over more efficiently than with the old pump.

You may also need to fine-tune your overflow/gate valve. I also cleaned my gate valve after 2+ years and it was pretty icky...!

Noise from the drain system is just from too much flow, which socks air down the drain as the water drains.

What is your drain system like?

Same I have had for 11 years and this just stared with the new pump so I assume it’s because it’s turning over water way more than my old pump was.

Okay. Is it a single drain? 1 siphon + 1 trickle or emergency drain?

If there is just a Durso pipe in the corner overflow it is likely due to increased flow.

Yeah just one over flow in corner it’s an older tank and yeah it must be the new pump turning water more efficient than my old pump.

I think you made the right choice going with the smaller pump as a Durso is going to limit the return flow considerably.

Well, that depends what overflow system you have, if your water is draining now through an emergency drain, that you have too much flow, but if water level dropped in your overflow, your flow is too low and you need to restrain one of your pipes. Picture or short video would help.
