I'm looking for a new return pump for my 90 and 40. They are both plumbed together.

I haven't done any research on pumps in a long time. I've been running Gen X for years now. They have alway been loud but thought that's what pumps did. There have to be quiet pumps that will move a decent amount of water.

What company should I be taking a look at?

How much flow are folks using these days? (tank volume/hour)

in line or submerged? I have had awesome luck with jap. iwaki inlines and mag drive submerged..allthough dont use that mag drive 24 it is super loud

I'm using a mag 9.5 right now on my 58gal. My next upgrade will be a new return pump. Im really liking the ehiem 1262. From what I've read the ehiem's are pretty quiet, have a low power consumption and run alot cooler than my mag 9.

its tough to beat the durabillity of the mag drives-I run the 9.5 as a return on my 75 and that think has been through the war and back and still runs like a champ...

i run an ehiem 1250 on my 90, an ocean runner 3500 on the 180. i try to go for 1-3x through sump an hour.
