Return water back to skimmer

I've seen some people do it on YouTube, but what are the benefits and is it good to return some of the water, that's coming from the sump back to the dt, back into the skimmer section?

Can you share the video; not sure I follow...

Not sure why it would help at all......the water constantly being moved through the sump (and being skimmed)......returning "already skimmed" water back to be skimmed again doesn't put you any further ahead. If your skimmer wasn't skimming that water, it would be skimming new water moving through the sump. This post has become very confusing lol.
