Starting my 40G Breeder plumbing and have questions about returns. I’ve seen the return Jets. Back of tank will be black and overflow is black. Should I have 2 returns one on either side coming into tank? Does the return jet that has an elbow connect to PVC. Sorry have so many questions

It doesn't matter much. Flow in a display is mostly from powerheads. So it's your choice what you think looks the best. I would likely offset the overflow and have one return. But you could center the overflow and do 1 or 2 returns, or even put the overflow on the end with a return in the other end.

Does the return jet that has an elbow connect to PVC.

Loc line is what I think you are referring to. It threads into a female threaded pvc fitting.
