I am returning to the hobby after a 10 year break. How things have moved on ! I previously had mainly a fish tank with a few corals but with no real knowledge on what I was doing. I have now done my homework via the internet, purchased a complete set up. 2nd hand off eBay with the sump upgrade. I am now ready to start the journey to a beautiful reef and fish aquarium. My first question is . . .
Can I make use of the redundant ‘in tank’ sump by filling it with live rock and getting a pump in there to get good flow through it or is there a better use for it.
Seems a shame to have all that space left redundant.
Thanks in advance

The E260 was my first tank about 7 years ago before getting ‘addicted’ so if you need any assistance just ask

If you mean the rear tank chamber, you could use it yes, but I would use a better type of media like Seachem Matrix (I have about 58 litres in my big tank) rather than just live rock to maximise the bio filtration, but it’s your tank,

And welcome as well!

Welcome to R2R! I agree with @SPR1968 put a more "efficient" media in the chamber. My preference is Siporax but I know a lot of people use Matrix. It's just what I had available.

Hi
Thanks for the advice. I hadn’t thought about that solution but sounds like a perfect idea. Do you think the return pumps would provide enough flow or will I need to put additional ones in to ensure flow through the media.
You did say I could ask

You don't really want to pack it or it will become a detritus trap so the stock pump should be just fine.
