Hello all! A quick backstory, I got into the hobby back in 2011. But it got to expensive and time consuming with two kids and i got out of it in like 2015. Now with working from home I decided in June I wanted a small, easy to maintain tank by my desk.

I have been out of town for 3 weeks due to a loss in the family so had friends watching the tank. Water parameters were way off when we got home. Ammonia was up to 2.0ppm, nitrates about 20ppm, nitrites were at 0 (I assume they were overfeeding). So I did a water change Sunday and ammonia is down to 0.25, nitrite 0, nitrate 5ppm.

This morning I noticed my clown is acting odd. He is swimming upside down and has a cloudy almost like film on him. It doesn't look like ich to me since it's not spots. He stills seems to be swimming around. But I am wondering what it could be? Could the spike in ammonia caused an issue?

Welcome back tmartinez.
Sorry for all your troubles, tough time.
Now that you're home, hopefully you can get things under control.
Bad problems to come back to for sure.

First I’m sorry for your situation that really stinks. Second welcome to R2R. As far as feeding when I’m away I’m lucky to have attentive neighbors but I still make little freezer baggies of what food to feed at each time of the day. I have a fairly complex feeding schedule with multiple feedings throughout the day so this helps eliminate over feeding or any other mishaps.
