After being out of the aquarium hobby during my duration in undergrad I'm looking to make a return to reefing, though I have had a Nuvo 10 for a royal gramma for a year and a half. I haven't kept up on the changes on equipment or methods very well over those four years and have been doing some reading and research recently, but I'm hoping to get some input/feedback on what I'm currently thinking of putting together to see where I may have gaps being successful over the long term.

My plan as of right now is to set up a 75-90 gallon SPS tank with the intention of following the WWC/BRS method since I have liked how WWC's tanks have looked and bearing in mind that a home reef is going to require some adaptations and have a smaller budget. With that said here is my plan for equipment so far-

75-90g bare bottom with custom stand
Trigger 34 sump with filter pad and open space for refugium if needed
Somatic 90S skimmer
Carbon Reactor
2x MP10 QD
1x MP40 QD
LED T5 hybrid or just T5s
2x 400gph return pumps

Fish list is currently changing, but still have some ideas

Nice thing about the WWC method is that it is pretty simple and not overly reliant on gadgets that have come out in the last few years.

What's your thought process on 2x mp10's and one mp40? I would have thought the reverse?

Welcome back! Don’t forget to start a build thread, with lots of pics. We love pics!!

Welcome back to the hobby!!! List looks good to me. I can vouch for the trigger Systems sump. Have a Trigger Systems Ruby Red 30 and they are excellent sumps!!!

Welcome back! I myself just returned after a slight hiatus. I have also decided to go with bare bottom (my 1st). I have very little reef touching the bottom of the tank so that as little detritus gets trapped as possible. Its no doubt that LEDS can grow coral no problem these days however i still like the old T5's to fill coverage. So i'd vote for Radions or ATI Powermodule Hybrid.

The thought is that I need to have decent flow but I already have two MP10s from my last tank, i haven’t calculated potential output overall with this configuration but if the reverse is what I need then I’ll end up going that route.

I stumbled upon a deal for lighting a 4ft tank from my local club, an Aquatic Life LED T5 hybrid using 4 AI primes at a price that’s hard to pass up. This is similar to a suggestion from the BRS series if I recall correctly.

I’ll be sure to put a picture heavy build thread for everyone here once things get rolling, it will be a slow process since I’m waiting until I move to get everything put together. Planning now and hoping to start accumulating equipment between now and moving!
