Dear all,

I have 30kg of old sand (not used nearly 3 months) which have black colour and smell awful. It is difficult to buy chemitry to solve in my area. I intend to reuse these for my new tank follow these steps.

1. Cleaning with RO/DI.
2. Boiling the sand for an hour.
3. Sun bathing for some days.

So is it ok or not.

As stated above,
Take the sand out in your yard, take your hose and turn the water on. Stick the hose in the sand (all the way to the bottom of the bucket) and when the bucket starts to overflow, start moving the hose up and down as well as moving it into different places. When the water overflowing the bucket starts to run clear (this could take several minutes or even longer), turn the water off. Tip the bucket and drain out as much water as you can. Yes, a small amount of water is still in the sand. If you want you can do the final rinse in RO/DI, but don’t waste your RO/DI for the initial rinsing. Tap water is fine!!! Some will say you can bleach it also. Likely not necessary. And remember, buying new sand is never buying new sand;)

Thanks so much. I will try immediately.
