reuse seachem purigen, smells like cenment??

hi Guys,
I just regarded some seachem purigen after the instruction on the bottle.
It went well and I can see the color turned back to bright white.
however it dose smells a lot, the newly washed purigen smells like cenment with a little sour and fishy fragment.
I didnt dare to but them right back to my system, just want to know if anyone knows it is normal??
and also, when shall I change/wash purigen, I know when it turns dark, but how dark/brown should it be or is its limit??

should smell fresh/bleach-ish …
I dechlorinate mine after bleaching, they suggest Seachems Prime but I’m guessing regular dechlor is ok….
…it does turn brownish beige when exhausted… more light beige really

That’s a pretty good description of the smell if you don’t use any dechlorinator, I don’t use any dechlorinator. So I get that “cement” smell when I’m finished. I go through a long process of letting the bleached purigen soak in tapwater, changing the water a number of times, until the smell of bleach is gone.

Thanks guys, I used seachff er m prime after 24 hr bleach bath, that is the smell I got after prime bath. That is why it feels bit wired to me

hi Guys, was in a hurry to start the post and now I cant find the edit button.
here is a little detail what I have done.
1. taking out the purigen bag and washed it with tap water for couple of minutes, just to remove some left overs on them. the pallets and the bag were kind of dark and brown ish...
2. Soaked in bleach as instructed for 24 hr. took the bag out. the pallets were very bright white, but the bag was still quite dirty, dark and brown. and they smells strong bleach before I washed them.
3. Soaked in seachem prime for 8hrs. this what seemed strange to me. the fishy cement smell got quite strong during the process, over the entire room when I enter the area. wired thing is the dark brown bag is now completely clean and white.... and the pallets got the strong smell.... plus, its my first time using seachem prime, when I opened the bottle, it got some kind of earth odd smell.....
anything I do wrong here??
