Reusing a Pump Thats been in Contact with Cupermine

Can I use a pump for Reef Applications that has been used to run a QT system for a month with Cupermine in it? I generally stay away from stuff that has touched copper for reef applications but I was wondering if I could use this pump for a reef.

Yup. Odds are it won't have absorbed any copper. If you are really want to be on the safe side you can run some cuprisorb or something similar. Otherwise I would just rinse it really well, like letting it run in tap water for a few hours then in RODI for an hour or two. After that you should be good to go.

With a really good cleaning I would think it would be ok. My advise would be clean it really well then put the pump in a bucket with some polyfilter to see if it changes color from leached copper.

I reused a 20 gallon long aquarium, filter, heater, and circulation pumps that was used for QT with cupramine and prazi for some fish. That setup became home for a mantis and soft corals. I did drain and refill a couple times and then ran some cuprisorb(think that's what it was), poly filter and GAC for around a couple weeks before adding sand and rock.

Seemed to work ok. This was about 6 years ago and the mantis and corals are still alive.
