I am going to be setting up a new 150 gallon reef tank soon and have an existing 60 gallon reef. I am wondering if I can reuse the live sand in my existing reef tank instead of buying all new sand. Would you guys recommend doing this? Thanks

I would probably siphon out the top 1/4" or so and set this aside. Remove the rest of the sand and give it a good rinse with the hose. Once this is done you can go ahead and put the live sand on top of the old sand in the new tank.

If you want to keep the biota, living stuff, in the sand, just rinse it thoroughly in salt water a few times to get the gunk out. If you don’t care about that, the trusty old garden hose works fine. I just rinse my sand in RODI afterwards a couple of times just to be safe.
