I'll be upgrading to a new system in the very near future. I have a system that has been up and running for about 4 months with CaribSea Arag-Alive Fiji Pink. Any problem transferring this sand to the new system or trash it?

No problems at all. Give it a good rinse and repeat. Instant cycling almost, depending on your rock.

I wouldn't consider trashing it. But even though it's only been in use for a short time, I'd still clean it.

Put it in a bucket (I use a 5g bucket) and stick the end of your garden hose in the sand (water running of course). As the bucket starts to overflow any detritus will wash away with the overflow and feed your yard!

Thinking about doing that in the middle of winter in the NE has me thinking i'll be trashing the sand. :D It's going to be a bz day setting up the new system where the "old" system is. I'll be doing everything myself, other than moving the new tank into place.

edit: and Petco has a really nice price on CaribSea Arag-Alive Fiji Pink right now.

See what happens after you live in SW Florida for 20 years! It's the middle of February and todays high will be 80 degrees and sunshine! Sorry! ;Hilarious;Hilarious

And to make it worse, I'm a native Floridian from Bradenton/Anna Maria Island. :D I still visit a lot and I'm hoping to be back for good in a couple of years.

Just slosh the sand around in old tank water in a bucket or two and pour off the poop. Then you can skip the bacteria in a bottle.

No fish in the tank, so no issues with poop. Rock and corals only. My rock should have no problem cycling the new system. I plan on transferring about 30 gallons of water from the current system to the new system which is a 75G DT. thx.
