Reverse ID?

I will start documenting everything I find so we can all learn from this. And when I break this tank down before the rocks get acid I will take video of the rocks going in hyper salinity one rock at a time.

When you get your fish, do you make sure they are eating before purchasing them? I still believe that you have a nasty critter in the tank.

Yeah, I had read somewhere if you get the salinity to 1.040 or higher it will kill the bacteria on rocks. But that it will cause worms etc to come crawling out of the rocks.

Ah ok, my bad. You're wanting to go hypersaline with the rocks. I'm not sure if that will work or not. But if you don't care about bacteria dying and starting over, why not just bleach all the rocks instead? That will kill everything. ;)

I just ordered new real reef rock and dry rock from BRS/LFS. I am starting a new build from scratch and I will muriatic acid bath the rocks to dissolve all organics including eggs etc. But the Hypersaline is more so I can find out what the heck is in the rocks, just killing it will be easy lol. But finding out what it is so not only I can learn from it but maybe I can share that experience with all of us, is what I am after.

you may find it like 0200 or so. Do you use a red light. That's how i view my tank at the awful 0 dark 30. I am sure you do. Do you have a suspect of what you may be looking for.

I have tried some red light, but I am not entirely sure tbh what I am looking for. It could just be some big bristleworms that thought the fish was dead. Or maybe a fireworm... but I have no idea.

Have you tried traps
Yeah, defininitely have done traps. I trapped for 3 weeks and caught a ton of worms. Not sure if they were fireworms or bristleworms as the bristleworms were more pinkish purple but the bigger ones were almost pinkish with super white bristles on the side.

After 3 weeks the traps were coming up empty, I may try to see if I can catch more. I know I have micro brittle starfish in there for sure. I see them regularly. My dusky wrasse eats fireworms and bristleworms, so I was hoping I got rid of all the large ones if they were fireworms. Since the little guys will get eaten.

Can you remove all the rocks at night and inspect them. You might find a surprise under one of them

I don't know how much you have but it certainly is an option.
