I can tell you, for what it's worth, that I used the Pinpoint Salinity meter for mixing salt water. I liked it a lot since it was permanently mounted and hands-off - and I think it lasted a good long while until it got splashed. One anecdote. 
By their website, they also make an EC meter now.
It looks like the RK folks came out with a SL2 version 2 as well as their salinity probe FINALLY.
I'm gonna make a posting about the EC meter thing....too many decent options to decide on my own now that I've looked a bit.
