Reverse osmosis stages and diresin

Hi I've been trying to find some information on RO in general.

I have 2 RO units a 100 gpd TMC pure plus and a DD Unknown gpd with di unit.

I understand there are various filter types and would like to make the system as efficient as possible.

Why is there the need for flow regulators.

I'm sure there is more I need to know so this is just a start
