IMG_0014.JPG okay....I bought this used Kent Marine 4 stage unit and it came with a 2 canister unit, making it a 6 stage RO/DI. I am not sure how old the DI & Carbon cartridges are or how old the RO cartridge is. I want to replace them all and add some sample points and pressure gauges. What would you suggest for cartridges and in what order would you put them in ?

5 micron or 1 ?
Do you recommend a vendor for replacement cartridges?
I also want to replace the RO cartridge. Maybe up the gpd from 60 to something greater.

Bulk Reef Supply.....
yup, they and melev have great videos and info, and also supplies. IMO dont worry about sample points dont make it more complex than it needs to be. A pressure gauge I would recommend though.

What are your opinions on the refillable DI cartridges ?

I only refill mine. I rinse them with RO/DI then refill. It is cheaper and works well.

It will run me about $150.00 to refit the entire unit with all new cartridges (including RO) and a couple of accessories.

Personally I would go with 1 micron cartridges. Did you ask about the RO membrane when you bought it? Do you know for sure it wasn't upgraded at some point? I have an old Kent unit but I'm running a 90gpd membrane in it. If you know nothing about it then when you get a new RO membrane, be sure to buy a flow restrictor to match the membrane output you are buying.

Personally, I would go with a 1 micron sediment, then 2 1 micron carbon filters, 90gpd membrane, then 2 refillable DI cartridges. Save your money and don't buy the color changing. Also invest in a handheld TDS meter. Test your water after the first DI filter and when it hits 1 TDS, switch the 2 DI cartridges and refill the one that was originally in the first spot.

If you want to test your current setup, get the tds of your tap water and a reading after the RO membrane (after letting it run for several minutes). If your tds is 4% or less than the tap reading the ro membrane is still good.

Spectrapure. only spectrapure. .5 sediment, .5 carbon, mega maxcap di, then enduro di for finishing. their filters and membranes are the best in the biz.
