I read an article about reverse undergravel filter and it seems interesting. It pushes junk trapped in the sand out into the water colum to be filtered. It also eliminates any chance of dead spots where Anaerobic bacteria can grow. Has anyone done this? How did you make it work?

This might answer a few questions link

I just saw this. My tank is running for 46 years like that.

For what it may be worth, I ran one on my 30 gallon planted/predator freshwater tank back in the day. I used Penguin's Reverse Flow Kit back then (which they no longer sell)....gave me a sponge for the powerhead's intake and a 90º fitting to adapt the pump to the UGF airlifts. I bought 3 extra sets of sponges so maintenance day was always a breeze...just dropped in a new set of sponges. They caught A LOT of garbage and would sometimes be collapsed under the pressure of the pump drawing water through them by the end of the maintenance period. The tank and fish always did great....zebra danios even spawned in there while living alongside the predators! I did a major plant trimming one day and found 4x the number of danios I used to have. LOL.

If I set up another tank with a UGF someday I'd definitely like it to be reverse flow again. Not precisely sure how I'd do it today though.
