looking to fine tune my qt. Havnt done it in any fish yet, will start tomorrow.

29 gallon tank filled with 20 gallons of actual water volume.

7 pounds of live rock, from cycled tank, to assist in biological filtration. No sand.

Aqua clear hang on back (oversized) with just filter floss to trap particles/ detritus.

Koralia 250 gph power head. Aimed at surface.

Air pump, no stone, creates large bubbles.

100 watt jaeger heater, set at 77.

Salinity, 1.020
The plan:

Copper power already set for 2.0.

Empty in 250 mg metro plex right before fish go in.

This should take care of ich, velvet, brook and Uronema.

Prazi pro towards the end, two doses, 5 days apart.

Water changes (5 gallons) once or twice a week, with appropriate meds to replace what I’m removing water volume wise.

Do this for one month, into the display.

Let me know wat you think

A couple of problems:
  1. The presence of live rock will make it difficult to maintain a stable Cu level.
  2. I would set Copper Power at 1.0ppm, and then slowly ramp it up to 2.0 over a few days.

Was hoping to use the one piece of rock as some bio filtration. So far, over a week, the level has stayed steady at 2.0. I suppose the filter floss in time can hold some bacteria in hob filter.

I can lower it t0 1.0 prior.

Does the rest of it sound good? Or is it better to do copper solely by itself, then metro by itself?

Dosing Prazipro in conjunction with copper will sometimes cause a bacterial bloom (cloudy water). Which in turn can lower the amount of available O2 in the water.

A safer option is to combing API General Cure + copper.

Ok. And api gen cure is as effective as metroplex in regards to brook/Uronema?

Does it have the adequate amount of metro in it as well as praziquantel?

I saw threads you’ve commented on in the past unsure of dissolving the tabs which contain the praziquantel?

It contains a slightly lower concentration of praziquantel than Prazipro, but is still considered therapeutic.

The metronidazole it contains is the maximum, but if you suspect a fish has brook or uronema then I highly recommend also dosing Metroplex every 48 hrs in-between rounds of General Cure. So that the fish is getting exposure to metro every 48 hours for 6-8 days.

Ok, the gc dissolves completely no issue on its own? No alcohol etc?

Also, if I’m prophetically treating ich/velvet/brook/euro, are I not better off using metro every 48 hours anyhow?

Can the gc be used every other day so the metro hits the potential brook/Uronema every 48 hours?

GC dissolves easier than powder praziquantel, but I would still mix it in a cup before dosing.

You don’t want to dose GC every 48 hours because of the prazi it contains. However, you can safely dose just metronidazole every 48 hours.

ceramic rings will not absorb copper and will give bacteria place to colonize. Prazipro most everytime will cause bacterial bloom (milky water) which can last as low as 2-3 days upto a week. Anyways Humblefish has this covered, just wanted to through the ring option incase needed. Filter floss in HOB will also help bacteria place to colonize but not as much as rings.

Ok so f I’m looking to satisfy brook/uro, velvet ich, I could do copper through your, gc on day 1 and day 5, metroplex day 3,7,9,11,13,15 .

This way metro is still hit every 48 hours, via gc on day 1 as 5, then metro the other days, and still doing the praziquantel in day 1 and 5 with the gc?

I personally would dose GC on Days 2 & 8. (Don't want to hit the fish with too many meds on Day 1.)

And then Metro on Days: 4, 6, 10.

The above concoction should be sufficient to clear worms, brook, uronema.

Adding copper to mix will treat ich + velvet, but you'll need to keep that at therapeutic for 30 days. Unless transferring to a second QT after 14 days.
