I have 2 different polyps that I have been monitoring for about 2 weeks that have closed up and since have not opened. It scared me half to death because they are amongst my favorite genetics in the tank! I tried less flow... low light... high light... more flow... finally I decided to do something I never thought id try. I actually attempted to feed a zoanthid. I know many of you swear by it but from much of the reading that ive done, I have my own opinion and that is of no real relevance. The point is that before I was going to feed the little guys, I noticed that some algae had decided to build up on one of the sides of the polyps. I took my feeding tube and tried to blow it off of the side of it being as gentle as I could. The water had blown directly into the center of the polyp and one of the edges of the polyp perked up. I was perplexed.
Was this all I had to do inorder to jumpstart the polyp? Really? It just needed a kick in the **** to start up again? I have heard of polyps closing for a week or so at a time for one reason or another but this was going on 3 weeks.
