Hi there!

I am new in the hobby and so excited to set up my 70G tank!

I am looking for a Skimmer and come across a good opportunity to buy second hand “new” Revolution M skimmer by Zeovit that I can fit in my sump leaving only 1 inch to access the collector cup!

Do you expert reefer think that won’t work for a small tank like that? The skimmer rates are from 400g up...

Not familiar with that skimmer, but understand, if you oversize a skimmer too much, you will likely run into inconsistent performance. You will get periods where it will produce sskimmate followed by periods where it will idle and not produce as it waits for organics to build up again. Not knowing the skimmer you referenced, I would think that a skimmer rated for 400+ gallons may be a bit much on a 70 gallon tank.

Oh yeah... welcome to R2R! :)

WAY too much skimmer for the tank. Having a skimmer that is too big means you will be wasting energy and effort. They are nearly impossible to tune because they remove everything so fast that it stops skimming all together, then you feed, add supplements, etc, and the skimmer goes nuts and overflows. I know it's tempting, but I would pass on it, you will be glad in the long run.

That would an excellent alternative. I run the prior generation of that model skimmer, the SCA 1351 and it is a fantastic skimmer. It’s super energy efficient, easy to adjust and has virtually no break in period.
