Is this just about the shelf, or the whole build?
I understand the concern but he's cutting a freakin gigantic hole in the wall. I think once that's done, everything else pales in comparison.
Sheetrock, studs and paint are cheap if things need to change. Especially compared to everything else like the tanks and equipment.

Around $1600. Including mortar, grout, saw, trowels, etc..

Remember I'm in NYC, eveything is more expensive here.

I want to keep the electrical conversation going but wanted to update you all on what's going down on the tank wall.

I wanted to do something other than just a straight sheet rock wall. So we are probably going to install this on the tank wall.

Here is a photo of someone who just made a wall with this half brick.

The whole idea will be to have the tank sunken about 4" into the brick to kinda achieve this effect but with different brick.

I am going to have a "mantle" or "ledge" like the tank above but it's going to extend out past the tank just a little and be made of distressed wood and really thick and rustic looking. Like this. Excuse the crappy drawings! HA!

The wood would look something like one of these shelves.

Would fit something like this. Again excuse the drawing.
