But along the process I did something to tick off the sps. They have really started to lose color, polyp extension is gone down to very minimal if any. This was a mistake. IMO never, but Never put chemicals in your tank. That stuff doesn't disappear and it short circuits what we pay the bacteria to do. My advise is to get a Diatom filter and whenever you see something in there you don't want, run the filter. It will remove it without adding or removing stuff you want. :D

Eek, I went through something similar. I dosed some acro power and ended up getting cyano. Delt with that trying to control it until I decided to try chemi clean. After the chemi clean my tank looked great for like 3 days. Then cyano came back along with a hair algae bloom and Dino’s.. Tried to deal with that for a while until I decided to try Vibrant.. During all of this corals looked fine. Not outstanding but they didn’t seem to mind to much.. Well the morning after I did my first dose of vibrant I had to acros RTN over night. Never dosed again. I have been dosing Microbacter 7 now just to make sure my good bacteria didn’t take a huge hit with the chemi clean and vibrant. Which I believe it did because I’m on day 7 of dosing and all my issues have calmed down drastically. Still have some cyano in the sand bed but it’s slowly getting better. Don’t see Dino’s anymore. Hair algae hasn’t been coming back as fast as it use to either. So, something good is happening I guess.

Thats green cyano... I had that stuff last year and when it started I foolishly thought it was a yellow sponge so let it be. No snails will eat it so don't try that and I would never recommend chemical treatment for a natural thing that is simply fueled by the detritus sink in your sandbed.

I siphoned out the top layer of the reef flakes sand and rinsed it until it ran clean. Saved it for next time when I took out 2nd layer then I added the first clean layer back in. Doing this a few time while adding a different nutrient export algae such as scrubber or in my case increasing photoperiod on my fuge made this unable to make a comeback. Also, this stuff hates strong flow and reef flakes sand can handle strong flow so reconfigure your pumps or add a different device and this stuff won't come back. The simplest things can off set our tank chemistry so whatever done is done just keep your hand out of the tank, keep you alk and nutrients stable and let your SPS recover on their own.

You definatly should think of adding maybe 2-4 tigertail cucumbers as they will digest the extra nutrients in the sandbed. Also 5-7 of the fighting conches will help for your size tank to help with un eaten food and keep the sand stirred up nicely. Lastly 20-30 nassarius vibex snails could also help incase you have uneaten food or a dead fish. These are great scavengers and will eat anything decaying in your tank like uneaten food and dead fish (most fish go into hiding before dying behind liverock) For snails my two favorites are the trocus snails and mexican turbo snails. I’d add probably atleast 1 dozen mexican turbos and 2 dozen trocus to start with. For hermit crabs i’d start with 2 dozen scarlet hermits and 100 blue leg hermits (these are super small and get into the nooks and crannies of the liverock nicely)

Yea, his monti cap garden is amazing, but even at the size they are, they are almost lost in the tank cause is so big and spaced out.

It's not much but I finally turned the corner and all my acros are growing and coloring really well! Remember this is an 8ft by 3ft tank so it's taking a while now that i got everything in control!

Ignore the pumps and wires etc. I like a clean tank but getting the corals to grow was the first priority! Clean up will be next!
