Reworking aquascape in existing tank

I’m wanting to rework my rock in my tank. I set it up with LR and dry rock. I basically don’t care for the way I set it up now that most of the rock is uniform in color. I have corals glued to the rocks and believe most of them can be removed or left in place as I redo the rocks. Some have encrusted over the rock and I won’t attempt to move.

Has anyone ever done this? Any tips/advice?

Keep an eye on your Phosphate levels. Add (extra) remover to prevent any spikes.

Good advice. In preparation, I have been blowing off the rocks and changing the filter floss afterwards. Plus I’m removing some rock as I have too much.

How long have you had the rocks in the display? Can’t remove too much due to the bacteria. I have one in the refugium that I want to take out and place in my Fluval Evo 13 Gal once ready and a bit nervous to do that. Have pics? What do you hate about it now?

Tank was set up around Christmas with LR and rock from an older tank. I’m not worried about bacteria loss because I have some rock and biomedia in my sump. Also running a BB so stirring up sand won’t be an issue.

Will say one thing. I tired to keep the corals on the rock but ended up taking all the corals off the rock. It was very hard to arrange the rock with the corals on them.

I already started to pull the SPS off the top rock. I feel bad doing this, as if I’m going to kill a few. Had to put some recently propagated ones on bed as well. Tank is a mess.

Yes it isn’t easy to do

I took all the corals out put them in water then took all the rock out

Then took half the water out filter though one or my filter socks (have 2 clean ones ready ). And put it in a brute container. It was easier to see in the tank with have the water out

Then I arrange the rock the way I wanted , some encrusting stuff I tired not to hide. But 1 or 2 had to be buried


Then added the old tank water back in and some new. Then glued the corals back on.

This helps a lot. I have lots of inverts in my tank that I need to watch out for. I don’t mind snail deaths but I have some others I’m worried for. I’ve removed the top layer of corals and it feels easier from here. Will leave them in the bucket and finish tmrw.

I would leave in tank if your going to do it tomorrow. Imo less risk then bucket

I’ve done tank transfers before and used the bucket method. It’s lights out for me at the moment as it’s almost midnight where I am. I wake up fairly early usually and will move the rock around and glue everything back. Got good flow in the bucket so they’ll be fine. Do you think I should go all out and vacuum the bed (bare bottom) and clean glass tonight? Then move everything tmrw and do a water change? I can’t wait to see what my parameters will be in coming few days.

If your taking the sand out yes I would do it tonight

For the only reason is water will be less cloudy in morning

And no I didn’t mean they wouldn’t make it in a bucket over night

Heck we ship corals in a bag with very little water all the time

A tank is just a bigger bucket of water

And if you do make sure your parameters match
