RFA - mouth expansion for weeks now!

Temp. 76.8°F (typically hovers at 77°F)

(I just don’t get the whole Salifert conversion chart) Feel like I’m wasting $20 on this test if I don’t even understand how it works or if I’m doing it correctly, lol.

For your test where do you fill up the too.
Is the water line at 1 or is the black part at 1?

If that is how you started then you read the number at the black part as well so .36 which is 9.9

Yes I do start there, so checkmark that I got that part down.

Do you know if you are typically around 9.9 or if it's going up or down?

Honestly, I would be surprised if it was parameters, as you have several others that don't seem affected at all. If they have all been in the tank for around the same time, I would think it had more to do with moving your rockwork around.

I’ll continue with monitoring the two, but I might also make an attempt at removing from work via. ice cube method, flow, etc.

I have two Rock Flowers that seem to be a bit unhappy. Not exactly sure why though because I have numerous RFA’s and these two are the only two exposing themselves in this way. It’s been a few weeks now, easily 2weeks that they’ve been this way.

My only uneducated thoughts is this;
1.) Is the area (rock their on) just not deep enough to settle in nicely?
2.) Are they expelling their waste? (If they’re expelling waste, why haven’t they retracted or closed their mouth?)

I personally wouldn’t mind making an attempt to remove them. RFA’s were the start of the aquarium, but have since taken over. I could use some more real estate for corals. Any thoughts R2R?

I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Sometimes rock flowers do weird things, even when there is nothing wrong with them. My neighbor has a rock flower that has been just like yours for over 2 years. It’s totally fine and healthy.

Here is a picture of one of mine that also has the same look. He’s been this way since I got him. He’s a huge flower (about 5-6 inches across when fully expanded). And his mouth has looked like that for months since he moved into a shallower hole in the rock that he liked.

I honestly wouldn’t worry about it. However, you might consider giving them some food to see how they respond. A lot of people don’t feed their RFAs, but they like meety foods.

Without a doubt! I’ve loved them since first sight, even the sand brown colored ones you pick up in knee deep water in the keys!

They were fashionable about a decade ago, but they’ve been making a huge comeback in popularity lately. No better bang for the buck in terms of color.
