I was getting up for dinner and past by my tank when i noticed ine of my larger rock flower nems was acting sort of wierd. It was all stretching out and cup shaped. Next I saw some white fluid coming out of its mouth. Didnt think anything of it other then perhaps it was pooping(although i have never seen white poop?)?

After we ate dinner i passed back by the tank and look in, and all my RFA's are doing the same thing, outstretched and cup shaped, with the exception of the one spewing this white mucus. Was this a spawnig event?

I do have acouple pics and a short vid if i can get it upload with my mobile as my laptop died yeaterday.

This is the culprit.

And the video if it will upload.

Yes. That is it spawning. Either that or it's taking a late night smoke. Lol.

I have 14 in my tank right now, and bout to order another 11. Cant wait for them to spawn.

I have one question then.....

I currently have 5 in my tank and all are rather large(saucer size), all had a similar response except one. Any idea why only the one wouldn't give the same response? My thinking was all the others were female and trying to catch the "sperm", while the oe that had no response was Male? Not sure if that's how it works or not, but it was my thinking on the event.

Those spewing the white smoke are males. The ones that didn't still could be.....they may have "spewed" later when lights were out.

There is a great thread in the anemone forum on RFA's and several spawning events have been documented. An anemone expert also posted some links to scientific articles that supported a 1:1 male:female ratio and some really weird reproductive biology including juvies found developing in males and the possibility of sex change. Interesting stuff.

Have a link? I did look through a couple pages, but I'm either dumb or blind as I couldn't find anything in there.

Looks like 2 males are responding to someone. I think the large white pinstripe one maybe female. It's movement is similar to what my females do when they are prepping to spawn.

I have a video that shows egg collection of females during these events but unfortunately, I don't know how to upload videos. Lol...

I would love to see that video! Just attach a file in the reply field, it's how I got mine up.

Anyways from that lite reading( thanks for the link btw), it seems from your experience that the ones that were stretching and cup shaped were the males? While the other 2 that were posturing around were the females? They all are nice and open today.

Wow I have a million question now. Lol illngo and read some more of Ron's thread, I'm sure some of my questions will be answered.
