RFG into a bulkhead without PVC cement?

I didn’t consider snails going into my return line. I have 1” open bulkheads returning into the tank.

Can I get 1” random flow generators, stuff them into a 1” PVC and just shove that into the bulkhead? Would prefer not to drain and cement this peice. Since it’s submerged in the aquarium water already doesn’t need to be a 100% perfect seal. Does this sound wise?

I have mine friction fitted. You can always wrap a bit of teflon tape around the pipe end to tighten the fit.
