Found my colony of rhodactis has started spawning, so far I can see eggs in two polyps. Unsure exactly what caused this, however I've dropped my temps from 80 to 76 over the summer & my lighting schedule got jacked up during daylight savings, so any number of things could be contributing.
Super excited even though it's not the species I was trying to spawn! Everything counts towards the eventual goal of spawning Cynarina.

This is awesome. Imagine the crazy coral morphs we could get with a few years of selective breeding

Update. The shroom pictured has not released her eggs yet, though I can see more through the skin of some of her sisters so I think the release date is coming soon!
How does that work exactly? I have never looked into coral spawning in depth, do the eggs become sessile almost immediately or do they have a planktonic stage for awhile?

Very good question. The eggs of most species will float to the water's surface to be fertilized, after which they float around for a day or so before becoming planulae and settling on the reef surface.
