Hi, just wanted to ask any wrasse keeping experts on what I could do to ensure and prolong the life of the animal! What would I need to know and is there a time tested way to ensure health and well being? Thank you!

Good nutrition (mysis, reef frenzy and pellets etc and even nori sheets) and a netted top on your tank. Do you have issue with one now?

Absolutely....good nutrition....I have 12 Wrasses....5 of them are leopards....I feed frozen Mysis....and they eat Seaweed sheets daily too....once a week I soak the Mysis in Selecon or Vitachem....also like HaryGary said....a screen cover is s must....Wrasses are jumpers.....oh also I add pods every so often too.....

Do you have a idea of when you are going to get him? What other fish do you have?

Alright awesome :) i will keep those items at the ready and they said by next month an order will be made. But thats the thing... i heard rhomboids dont have good survival rate in captivity and during quarantine so im kind of on the fence about getting that guy! Also how did you quarantine your wrasses if you did? Ive also got two clowns, a fox face and a cleaner shrimp :)

Those guys should be good with Wrasses! I did not QT any of my Wrasses. I know others will disagree. I bought all of them from my LFS not online. I made sure they were at the store a minimum of two weeks and eatting frozen.

Oh alright! If you did qt them what would you use? I wish i had a good lfs close by that stocked rarer specimens XD

I would use a decent size QT with eaither sand on the bottom or a Tupperware container with sand for any sand sleeping Wrasses.....and some pvc pipe for hiding spots..... some treat with prazipro for flukes because Wrasses can be prone to flukes....others do copper too....and some just QT to watch and observe....

I just TTM and prazi. Also keep an eye out for stringy poop. Wrasses can be susceptible to intestinal parasites so soaking food in Metro and focus or GC and focus works well.

Rhomboid, Lineatus and Isosceles.

Never heard of Rhomboids being difficult. They have great temperament.

Oh that's awesome :) I meant in terms of them living and lasting because of how deep they are harvested! How was your rhomboid when you got one?

Now a days swim bladder issues in rhomboids are less frequent then they used to be.
But as stated, watch for stringy poop, feed chopped mixed foods and add some veggies in there as well

Oh that is relieving to know! Would be heartbreaking losing a beautiful fish like that!

Great advice here so far, what kind of wrasses are you considering? They do vary a lot.

Most of the information posted here applies to them all :)

Rhomboid are pretty fragile, the one I kept took a while to eat and needed to be in a stress-reduced environment for a couple weeks prior to addition. :)

Fairy wrasse seem to find live blackworms irresistible, as do many other fish.

Any tips I could use to ensure survival?
