All the information regarding Yuma vs Florida indicates Yuma's only method of asexual reproduction is pedal laceration. And Florida asexually reproduce with binary fission.

I've had the biggest polyp of Ricordea Yuma in the picture since 2009. It has produced all of the other polyps through pedal laceration. Check out the photo below, you can clearly see it has formed two mouths on the original (and largest) polyp. It is a huge polyp, it has been 3-4in across for several years now. It's currently surrounded by its babies, which could be a factor.

Let me know if anyone else has ever seen this.

Yes, I have two different varieties of R. yuma that multiply in that manner. The one similar to yours pictured I can induce the split(s) by rotating the small piece of LR its on by 90* causing to move towards the light and in doing so will leave 1-3 babies behind each time.

Cheers, Todd

Amazing! Almost all of the literature regarding yuma and florida contradicts this. The method of asexual reproduction can't be used to distinguish the two species anymore.

I could not find ONE picture showing this anywhere else.

I have had a couple of yumas generate 2 separate mouths, but they never split into 2 polyps. My yumas grow on a corner of a frag rack and are very crowded.

How do we determine Yuma from Florida?
I have a FL that I know of for sure, it has split. another that has split (green/blue unknown) and another that has 2 mouths but has not split ( a bland brown color).
The Fl that split, one has moved off plug and other half stayed on plug....would love to get them off and on to LR.
