Hey everyone! I decided to finally start my build thread. I’m getting closer to finally being able to start building. I’m slowly gathering supplies as the budget allows having a new born. I want another large tank, but with the house we’re in now and not wanting to be here long term I’m leading towards a smaller tank setup. I’ve had a couple 5.5 nanos before and really enjoyed them. I want to do something slightly larger than the 5.5 and with a larger water capacity to make tank stability a little better. I’ve had this idea in my head for a while now, and finally drew it out today. I drew it to scale, however the bottom foot to so of the stand isn’t on there. Each tank is a 10g tank. There will be 3 in the system. The main display on top I want to try a macro algae bed with my rock scape floating on a piece of acrylic.
The second display tank built into the stand almost with like a porthole look would be a black sand setup and I want some active swimming fish for my son to watch when he’s older. The 3rd 10g is a refuge/sump in the bottom of the stand. (You can see the top outlined. The kicker is I want to tie a 2g cookie jar into the system with a par 38 led for lighting. This is just a concept idea and things are probably going to change. But I really like the idea. I know plumbing is going to be a nightmare, but I have a pretty technical brain and think I can handle it. My biggest issue is going to be sizing the drains and pumps and tuning everything to work good. I would eventually like to build a reef pie to control everything as well. I have an older led fixture I’d like to harvest and make a nice led for both of the display tanks, and I have a veg light for the refuge also. I already gave the par 38 led for the cookie jar. Anyways. I wanted to see your guys thoughts on it. I have more ideas yet, but just need to do some designing and thinking yet. Wish I still had access to car. But hand cad still works lol.
