Has anyone had a ricordea florida that the edge turned brown/black and has like no polyp extension? i have a new one that has been in my tank for 3 days and the bad edge appears like its spreading while the rest looks fine and puffs up like normal? I did notice my kuekenthali shrimp eating it in that spot and i have since built an enclosure for the rics using a peanut butter jar cleaned really well with holes drilled all over it as a temporary solution however it still looks like the edge that looks kinda like its rotting away may still be spreading.. Im not sure if it is the shrimp who caused the issue or if it was cleaning dead tissue, however knowing they cleared my tank of aiptasia i believe they were eating my florida. I did dip it with revive before i put it in my tank when it looked normal but it has since appeared to be getting worse each day. I did have it in a medium light area and medium flow but i moved it to less light and less flow thats when i noticed the edge. I would post a picture however my lights are on moonlighting so i will have to wait until tomorrow to take a picture.

Hard to access without a pic

I have a colony of Fl rics and they are pretty hardy little shrooms. I'd say let it be and watch over it. It's only been 3 days, give it time to acclimate. The good thing about it is if this progresses, you may be able to cut the necrotic area away and let it heal. As long as it doesn't injure the mouth... you should be good.

i believe it even looks worse today than last night.

Thanks, do they look to the point where you would cut them up? ive never tried cutting up a coral yet and worry it will stress it even more but if its the best shot in everyones opinion i will try whatever might help it.

Mime went through a bad time too. Too much light was hitting it in my case.

I suggest dip and position in a less lid area. Feed reef roids 2x week. Let it be.
thanks, i may try this however it is already in what looks to be quite a dim area in my opinion, could it be that it is in too low light? i will deffinitely try feeding it today reguardless though.

Yours still looks really good give it time. Ive been fighting w one I got for the better part of 2 months. Detached from plug during shipping and partially bleached out. Then a few weeks later flow flipped the sauce cup I was using to shelter it while it was still trying to attach to plug and it took a trip into my Nero 3. Chopped one of the 3 mouths off of it and its finally on a good road to recovery. Some color coming back and starting to inflate more again. Photo was from before it took a trip to the powerhead And the blue light is flooding all the white areas so it looks way more colored then it is in reality.

Thank you, i am absolutely hoping you are correct, it looks alot worse now from when i first got it although if it can survive going through a powerhead after all of that then i still have some hope for it. It already appears like the dark spot is larger again since i posted the picture though.

I don't see a clean place to cut that. The black is all the way into the center. I'm +1 with @Fernthereefer ... leave it be. Good flow, low light... mine like roids and phyto.
yeah its got more black in the center now than like a hour ago when i posted the first picture too. Anyone have any idea what causes this? i have looked all over the forums for similar issues with rics turning black rapidly and havent seen any. I dont have any reef roids or phyto on hand but i may try either feeding pacific white shrimp shredded pieces, mysis or possibly some nls marine fish food formula crushed into a fine powder or something aslong as that isnt a stupid idea on my part.

I would go by patience. The more you move it around and bother the heck out of it, the more it needs to adjust. If it went into the tank without a slow ramp up of lighting, it could have shocked it. Just leave it in the shade and let it be for now. Watch the parameters... isolate it, just in case.

also for a little more info the yuma in the same container looks good, along with the purple rhodactis mushroom, ultra red discosoma, teal green discosoma, devils hand leather, and green star polyps in my tank also look good so far knock on wood. The xenia has been mad for months and hasnt opened hardly at all, but hasnt melted away except for a patch in the middle. majority of the hard corals i added last perished though so definitely hope i have better luck with the majority of these soft corals until im comfortable trying skeletal hard corals again.

actually correction looking at the yuma next to the florida it has full polyp extension but is a more brown color than the green with purple tips it was in the persons tank i got it from which makes me wonder if i could have it too low light where i have them? will it eventually die too if it is too low light where it is or will it acclimate? I know i should rent a par meter eventually but dont want to till i fix my other led pannel as i only have one on the tank right now and would really want to know what it is with both pannels.

I will try to be more patient, i have only moved it 3 times though, when i first put it into the tank and then when the color faded a bit in the center i thought since i didnt light acclimate them it was too much where they were so i moved them to near the edge of the tank where the lighting vissibly looked the lowest and then into the jar in the same spot the same day when i saw the keukenthali eatting/picking at it on the right top corner of the picture however it has still gone downhill since then. I havent touched it in like a day though and still getting worse. It might be worth noting too that the cheap red and blue grow light for the aquaclear 70 fuge i made does spill into the tank near where they are at night if this could be irritating it aswell. When you say isolate it do you mean by itself in the jar? cause i do have a yuma in there aswell out of fear the keuk will try eatting it too. Will test parameters later today however i need to get new kits soon as i noticed some are expired now.

I actual now dislike these, they have one heck of a sting and will damage/kill other corals, reproduce like crazy, and hard to remove once in the system.

Good Luck!

fair enough, that makes sense since they are apparently actually anemones from what ive been reading. I havent had much growth of anything other than pests in my tank so i would actually be happy if anything cool looking would survive and take over my tank as i am still a noob lol. Ive actually nicknamed the tank "Dead Sea" and "Barren Sea" based on my luck so far lol Thank you for your reply and wishing good luck.

Thank you to all who have replied so far, I highly appreciate the help. Its sounding like the general consensus is too leave it be and try feeding with a possible revive dip soon so that is what im leaning towards but am still open to more ideas also.
